2024 Malaysia-China Life Sciences R&D Forum Held in Kuala Lumpur

On October 14, 2024, marking the 50th anniversary of China-Malaysia diplomatic relations, the Malaysia-China Life Sciences R&D Forum was inaugurated at Taylor's University in Kuala Lumpur. Under the theme 'Innovation-Driven, Healthy Future', the forum convened leading experts, scholars, and university representatives from both nations to explore technological innovation and collaboration in advancing regional life sciences and healthcare. Distinguished attendees included Dato' Lee Wen Chai, Non-Executive Chairman of the Malaysian Bioeconomy Development Corporation, Mr. Wang Jianmin, former Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry, along with leadership and representatives from six premier Malaysian universities.

During the forum, the Chinese expert team presented their independently developed macro-fluidic droplet technology, protected by global patents. Through live demonstrations and hands-on training, they elaborated on the application prospects of this technology in molecular biology, genetic testing, and related fields. Malaysian scholars highly commended the Chinese team's research capabilities and innovative achievements.

As a significant outcome of the forum, six premier Malaysian universities established cooperation agreements with Chinese representatives. The Chinese side will provide advanced qPCR equipment and supporting consumables to each university to facilitate their research projects. This collaboration will enhance the technical capabilities of Malaysian universities in molecular biology applications.
Moving forward, both parties will continue to expand their cooperation scope, leveraging technological innovation to advance the life sciences and healthcare industry, delivering greater benefits to the people of both nations.
